Of course this was well calculated to mislead the people who look to the President for an example, into paying enormous prices for the speculator's cattle. To be sure the President might get his money back but what were the influenced people bitten into bad bargains through the influence to do? We are sorry to feel that this transaction works an injury to the people and particularly to and is a deplorable abuse of influence and confidence so implicitly bestowed by an honest and confiding people and venture to hope with all due respect to the venerable President that such a deplorable use of his influence will never sadden our hearts again or compell us as a matter of conscientious but disagreeable duty to the people, to publicly advert to Buch an unhappy subject. Mor-monis- in THE ENLARGED GAZETTE. Today we present our readers with the enlarged 8 column paper which we promised some time ago. Owing to various circumstances chiefly presure of job work we were delayed somewhat in the issue of this enlarged paper but we have got there at last all the same. Capt. Bailey cited as the guide in this matter, and for public information, the following circular from Capt. Mills at Helena, Montana, the collector for the district; The Special Tax year of the U. 8. Internal Revenue Department begins on the first day of May of each year, and continues one year. On or before that date all Rectifiers, Brewers, Wholesale or Retail Dealers in Spiritual or Malt Liquors, Leaf or Manufactured Tobacco, Oleomargerine, Manufacturers or Peddlers of Cigars or Tobacco, or Manufacturers of Stills are required to take out special tax stamps for the ensuing year. The next was Springville which lad not troubled so much in the line neither did the ladies display any fancy work but they made up for this in drawing of maps. Their maps were the best drawn and painted. Spanish Fork like Springville had left the manufacturing part out, the adies had forgotten the needle and fancy work and put their time in drawing. There were four or five (ood drawings from Spanish Fork arge one about 20x16 InclieB. Every preparation was made to give All visitors to Provo a right royal welcome. The band marched down to the depot and reoeived the visitors with appropriate musical demonstrations of greeting. Avery large number of school children came accompanied by parents and teachers both from the north and the south. They made a very gay appearance as they marched up J to Centre street and assembled in the Opera House where a long and most entertaining programme class exercises music sqd red? tatlonswas most crdltgbly executed. The Gazette goes to press too early to make extended personal mention of this part of the days attractions in this issue. The fair at the Central School house was also a decided success. The teachers of Utah county did themselves great credit by the way they carried out the details of the celebration. The display of American Fork was the first thing to call the attention of the yisltore. The best in the display of work from that place was a pencil drawing bv Miss Eliza Chipman and Miss Luie Wild. There was some nice fancy work consisting of pin cushions and small banners. The three mast ship made by Henry Culluns was a very good model. This is provision which was strongly urgei open Mr. Windom before he finisliec bis bill. The suspension of silver dollar coinage, except to furnish means to redeem bullion certificates, is a step which in the judgment of able financiers will tend to force international hi metalism. The provision that the price paid for bullion shall not exceed one dollar for 371 25-1- 00 grains avoids the danger of being compelled to buy tho silver of other nations indefinitely. With Senator Sherman indorsing the bill as safe legislation, because, on the one hand, it avoids the danger of degrading the national currency to a single silver standard, and, on the other, tics gold and silver together by close hands, the measure may be regarded as such a compromise of differences between the silver men and the gold men as will meet public approval. It will save the country from the free coinage rocks toward which wc were rapidly drifting, provide an increase of the volume of currency commensurate with the growth of the country and the extension of the uses of currency (such as the New York Weekly Payments law will require, for instance), protect the great silver mining interests from depreciation, and, if the expectation of statesman who have framed it is realized, place us eventually with the companionsound ship of European nations on a bi metallic financial basis.
